Business is just like the game of Monopoly... Run out of cash and it's GAME OVER!

Cash is your oxygen for growth. Companies don't fail due to lack of profit, they fail because they run out of cash; and they run out of cash because they have neither managed it nor understood it sufficiently.  

If you answer "no" or "not good enough" as you consider the following questions then your growth potential is being limited:

  • Do you have a tight cash collection procedure and are your customers mostly paying within their agreed payment terms?

  • Do you understand how to improve your sales cash cycle (and are you doing it)?

  • Do you know how to improve your production/buy/buy cash cycle (and are you doing it)?

  • Do you know how to improve your delivery cash cycle (and are you doing it)?

  • Do you how to improve your billing & payment cycle (and are you doing it)?

  • Is every line on your Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet assigned to an individual accountable for that number?

  • Do you have a 12-month forward cashflow forecast and are you comparing it to the actual cashflow and understanding the difference?
  • Do you know your "break even" position and the sales and associated margins required to achieve this?

  • Do you know how much cash is needed to fund your growth during the next 3-5 years?

  • Do you have the access to that funding in place?

I used to measure the success of our practice on turnover and profit... Over the years of working together, Hayley has pushed me to focus on growing our cash, which is great as it means I'm now able to fund our growth through our own reserves.
